Wanted to share my internet romance. Back in May of 2001 I went on to an over 40's chat out of curiosity. I was not looking for anybody. I met a man through the chat who also was not on the lookout. I guess in the way I was talking, it caught his eye and he asked if he could e-mail me as a friend. We both stated from the beginning that it was nothing more than friendship. The more we talked, the more things began to change.
He sent me his photo and I sent him mine. He expressed his feelings of love for me and I did the same in return. On September 20th he came to Canada to visit me (he is from the U.S.) and we knew even before the visit we would be attracted to each other. As soon as we met at the airport we knew it! We had such a great time together. He kept telling me how much he loved me, he held my hand constantly as we walked around seeing the sights and the kisses were certainly there as well. On the 23rd he told me had to have me and asked me to be his wife. I immediately responded with a yes.
For all you that may think we might be very young people, this is not the case. I'm 42 and he is 51. I work for a police agency and he is in state government. My son and I are now flying down to his state for the American Thanksgiving and to meet his family, friends and co-workers. He has already started with the immigration papers (which we are truly hoping) will not become a big headache or a long wait. We speak to each other every day either by computer or by telephone expressing our love for each other. In the future, when I have been given permission by immigration to be married, I will then move to the States and we will be married in his home state. I never thought in my wildest dreams that this kind of situation would ever happen to me.
I have heard the negative feedback on internet dating but on the other hand, I've heard more positive coming out of it. I already know – 2 girls in my office are successful internet dating – one with someone in Canada and the other with someone in the U.S. Good luck to everybody who goes this route.
